For this year’s Show House, we designed the Dining Room and adjoining Lounge in the 1855 Greek Revival John B. Shimer House. The Dining Room is centered around a rose-colored glass chandelier and wrapped in a chinoiserie-inspired mural, balancing whimsy and structure. Geometric dining chairs, a burlwood table, and Laura Brady’s Epitome of Elegance reinforce the interplay of softness and form.
Beyond, a moody, color-drenched lounge offers quiet refuge. Faux crocodile wallpaper and a Slim Aarons photograph create a sophisticated, speakeasy-inspired atmosphere that can be enhanced by drawing the drapes between the two rooms.
Though distinct in character, the spaces remain connected through a shared palette and fabrics. Together, they explore the relationship between light and dark, softness and structure, creating a harmonious dialogue between contrasting design elements.
